URMC Offering Free Tuition To Nursing Program In 2023

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is excited to announce that they will be offering free tuition to their 12-month Accelerated Bachelor’s in Nursing Program (ABSN) for Non-Nurses starting in the fall of 2023.

The program is open to applicants who have earned a previous bachelor’s degree. It should be in a discipline other than nursing with a minimum 2.8 GPA. You also need to complete the prerequisite course requirements.

Free Tuition Program For Nurses

The Accelerated Bachelor’s in Nursing Program is designed for individuals who are looking to change careers and become a nurse in just 12 months. The program is a second bachelor’s degree program that builds upon your current bachelor’s degree. It is a fast-paced immersion into the exciting profession of nursing.

The ABSN program requires students to complete 49 nursing credits and over 700 clinical hours. This is done in various specialties such medical-surgical obstetrics, pediatrics, and psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center campus. 

After three semesters of full-time coursework, students will earn a Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing from the University of Rochester (ABSN). Graduates will take the NCLEX-RN exam in order to obtain RN licensure.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor’s in Nursing Program, applicants:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing from an accredited school.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 from your most recent relevant degree.
  • Must successfully complete the prerequisite course requirements before starting the program.
  • Must be proficient in the English language (International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency)

Application Process For The Fall 2023 Cohort

The application deadline for the Fall 2023 cohort is March 1, 2023. To fully submit an application, candidates must create an account and fill out all sections of the online application. Additionally, they must also upload or submit the following application materials as part of the application process:

  • Official transcripts from all schools attended
  • Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references
  • Current Resume
  • Written Responses
  • International applicants must submit TOEFL, IELTS, or DET scores if English is not their first language

Consequently, once the application is complete, applicants may receive a follow-up email to schedule an interview.

Additional Nursing Program Option: 24-Month Accelerated BS

In addition, URMC also offers a 24-Month Accelerated BS in Nursing program for non-nursing college graduates. This program is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a new career path in nursing but need more flexibility in terms of balancing work or family commitments

The program features the same curriculum as the 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor’s program. However, this one spreads out the coursework and clinical requirements over a two-year period. The deadline for applying to the program is Jan. 2, 2023, for the Summer Semester (May 2023).
